A two-group machine for a cart, or a home grinder for a café. Both are expensive, in opposite directions.
Most of the money went to the machine. The grinder decides the shot, and it's the part that gets skimped.
Delivered, plugged in, never dialed in. No water treatment, no service schedule. It makes bad coffee for a year and then breaks.
Equipment leases with service terms that don't cover what breaks. We've read a lot of them. Send it before you sign.
Spend on the grinder. The grinder determines the shot more than the machine. A mid-range machine with an excellent grinder outperforms the reverse. Budget them together, not the grinder as an afterthought.
Water is a spec, not an accessory. Espresso machines want filtered water in a moderate hardness range. Too soft corrodes, too hard scales. Test your water and size the filtration to it before the machine is ordered.
Plan the utilities early. A dedicated 220V circuit for the espresso machine, a filtered water line, and a drain within reach. All three are cheap during construction and expensive afterward.
Maintenance is a schedule. Backflush daily, replace group gaskets and shower screens on a cycle, descale to your water, and a professional preventative service roughly twice a year. Most breakdowns are skipped maintenance, not bad machines.
Volume, menu, space, staff skill, budget. That decides the spec, not a brand's catalog.
We spec and source espresso machines, grinders, batch brewers, cold brew and water treatment. We carry Fellow and work with the major commercial lines.
Delivered, plumbed, calibrated and dialed in on your coffee. Water tested and treated so the machine lasts.
A session on how the equipment works, daily care and what to do when a shot goes wrong. So the team runs it, not just you.
A second opinion on a vendor quote or a lease before you sign. Usually pays for itself in the first paragraph.
Preventative maintenance on a schedule and same-day callbacks for bar-down emergencies in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb. Repairs.
Week 1Assess. Volume, menu, space and budget. A spec with options at different price points, and a read on anything you've already been quoted.
Weeks 2 to 6Source and Install. Ordered, delivered, plumbed and calibrated. Lead times on commercial machines drive this timeline more than we do.
Week 6 onRun and Service. Fundamentals session with the team, then preventative maintenance on a schedule.
Depends on cash and on the service terms. Leases make sense when the service coverage is real; many aren't. Send us the lease before you sign and we'll tell you what it actually covers.
The grinder, and it's the one people underspend on. A mid-range machine with a great grinder beats the reverse every time.
Yes. Assessment first. Often the answer is a service, a new grinder and a recipe, not a new machine. When it does need replacing, we'll say so and why.
Yes, in metro Detroit, through our repair program. Preventative maintenance on a schedule and same-day callbacks when the bar goes down.
